About 'nutritionist training'|... that demand specialized training or qualification, which can only be ... for more than six years as a nutritionist, because I would like to obtain skills...

Melinda               is               a               high               school               senior               and               gymnastics               star.

She               has               already               landed               a               scholarship               to               her               first               choice               university               for               her               gymnastics               skills.

Melinda               has               been               participating               in               gymnastics               since               middle               school               when               her               best               friend               introduced               her               to               the               sport.

When               Melinda               reached               high               school,               she               easily               made               the               varsity               team.

However,               her               coach               encouraged               her               to               lose               five               pounds               in               order               to               fly               higher.

She               began               watching               what               she               ate               and               spending               more               time               in               the               gym.

Over               the               past               three               years,               though,               she               has               become               obsessed               with               her               weight               and               spends               significantly               more               time               in               the               gym               practicing               than               her               teammates.

Melinda               is               suffering               from               Female               Athlete               Triad.

Female               Athlete               Triad               is               a               condition               that               contains               three               aspects               -               amenorrhea,               osteoporosis,               and               eating               disordered               behavior.
Disordered               eating               behavior               may               appear               differently               in               girls               with               Female               Athlete               Triad.

One               girl               with               the               condition               may               starve               herself               while               another               may               eat               large               quantities               of               food               and               throw               it               up.

Yet               another               girl               with               Female               Athlete               Triad               may               only               eat               foods               that               are               "low-fat"               or               "fat-free".
Amenorrhea               is               the               loss               of               one's               period               and               girls               with               Female               Athlete               Triad               may               experience               this               symptom.

Girls               who               train               hard               at               their               chosen               sport               may               never               get               their               period               -               if               they               began               training               at               an               early               enough               age.

On               the               contrary,               some               girls               get               their               periods,               but               when               they               begin               training               more               rigorously,               they               lose               them.
It               is               perfectly               normal               for               a               pre-teen               or               teenage               girl               to               miss               an               occasional               period.

Thus,               it               is               important               to               talk               to               your               doctor               if               you               or               your               child               (if               you               are               a               parent)               about               missed               periods,               especially               if               you               miss               more               than               one               or               two.
Finally,               osteoporosis,               weak               or               brittle               bones,               is               the               last               aspect               of               the               Female               Athlete               Triad.

Children               and               teens'               bones               continue               to               develop               and               eventually               reach               their               maximum               bone               density.

However,               when               girls               exercise               rigorously               and/or               do               not               eat               healthily,               bone               density               may               never               reach               its               peak.

In               addition               girls               who               suffer               from               Female               Athlete               Triad               may               be               losing               bone               density               due               to               unhealthy               eating               and               exercise               habits.
When               bone               density               is               reduced               injuries               such               as               stress               fractures               may               occur.

Ultimately,               injuries               may               put               a               girl               out               of               the               sports               arena.
Risk               factors               for               Female               Athlete               Triad               include               sports               that               encourage               a               thin               physique,               such               as               gymnastics,               girls               who               love               their               chosen               sport               so               much               that               they               would               do               just               about               anything               to               keep               playing,               and               low               self-esteem.

Girls               who               are               competitive,               perfectionists,               and/or               have               a               lot               of               trouble               at               home               are               also               at               risk               for               developing               Female               Athlete               Triad.
If               your               coach               (or               your               daughter's               coach)               encourages               you               to               lose               weight,               please               talk               with               your               doctor               or               a               nutritionist               about               healthy               ways               you               can               lose               and               maintain               a               weight               that               is               healthy               for               your               age               and               build.
Please               talk               with               your               doctor               about               your               symptoms               if               you               suspect               you               are               suffering               from               Female               Athlete               Triad.

Chances               are               your               performance               may               be               suffering               rather               than               improving               due               to               a               lack               of               nutrition               and/or               overexertion.
